Lake District and Honister Pass

sunny 15 °C

The Lake District is the aim today. A fine morning with some sunshine and blue sky as we set out to see the Lake district and Honister Pass.
First off was Windermere Lake. It was very busy so we decided to have a coffee and something to eat, look around and move on. It is a very picturesque area with plenty to do.
Back on the road just after lunch and it was a great experience. Small narrow lanes with barely room at times for our car to travel on let alone some one coming the other way. Squeeze forward or reverse back up was the order of the day if you came upon someone coming the other way. Great fun. Trucks trim the foliage on the sides of the roads beautifully to straight lines . Lanes winding up and down also added to the experience with many lined by foliage or stone fencing.
Tributaries and small lakes covered a vast area and we constantly came upon the waters edge as we toured around.
The Holister Pass was magnificent and we spent some time on this awesome road. Photo opportunities at every turn. Mountains that reach for the sky, some with sheer sides and others that gently rolled upward. Slate quarrying was/is a bit industry in this area.
The whole trip was a photographers dream and in the end we just took it all in as the camera would have been worn out.
